Bimba Y Lola goes Greek for SS16

Bimba Y Lola goes Greek for SS16

Ancient Greece would be a fascinating place to return to: the brainy philosophers, the imposing architecture and even the Gods of Olympus all had their hand in shaping what is now known as “western civilisation”. This summer, Bimba Y Lola draws inspiration from the golden age of the once-unrivalled empire for its #thisisgreece Spring Summer 2016 collection.

Inspired by both ancient and modern Greece, the series drenches its garments into a wide spectrum of island-inspired colours. From the pure white of the steps in Santorini and the ceruleans of the Aegean Sea to the sun-baked ochre of the well-trodden earth, colours are matched with playful prints to form a cohesive narrative.

The creative honchos behind Bimba Y Lola clearly had a field day designing fun and theme-specific prints for #thisisgreece. Simple flower patterns adorn stark white jumpsuits and toga tops, while female figures straight out of a Greek mythology picture book adorn the fabrics of cutout dresses. Adding new meaning to the term ‘classical beauty’ are the outlines of classical Greek sculptures and the repeated pattern of iconic Greek columns that one might spot on the Parthenon, turning up on clean-cut blouses and maxi dresses. Of course, any homage to the Mediterranean destination is not complete without an allusion to the Trojan horse, and this, too, finds its way into the collection.

Transporting us to a magical place of beautiful sunsets and never-ending summers, Bimba Y Lola’s summery pieces are just the thing to imbue you with the confidence to feel like a goddess.
