It requires great effort to think of trying on, let alone purchase, heavy duty outerwear in sunny Singapore, but until the concept of see now, buy now becomes omnipresent we are going to have to push through and learn to love the idea of weatherproofing and parkas in the summer. But the latest collaboration between OFF-WHITE c/o VIRGIL ABLOH™ and Moncler means you won’t need much convincing.
Partnering with the French-Italian luxury outerwear brand best known for creating the red jacket Drake wore in his “Hotline Bling” music video, the special collection titled ‘Moncler O’ sees OFF-WHITE’s Virgil Abloh bringing his signature use of colour, patterns and omnipresent streetwear style to Moncler’s high-end technical apparel. Taking cues from the fishermen of the Northern seas, the collection takes us to the high seas to show the garments’ ability to withstand the harshest weather conditions and sub-zero temperatures. Expect to see anoraks that have been redesigned to look like classic waxed sailing jackets, jackets and puffer coats with fixed and detachable hoods, long and short parkas, vests, trousers made of double-waterproof cottonand an incredible sherpa half-zip.
The key elements across the pieces are the technological details and fabrics: glossy or opaque PVCs with a velvety hand, checkered nylon with a laminate finish on the reverse, heat-sealed polyurethane films, and ultra-light cottons printed with exclusive patterns. These garments also carry the French-Italian brand's logo in yellow silicone embedded with Off-White's signature stripes on the revisioned fishermen's uniform.
The collection highlights the Abloh's thirst to cement himself as one of fashion’s most recognisable figures, and with Moncler O, the designer is bound to be thrust higher to the upper echelons of the fashion industry’s elite.
