Vans Goes 8-Bit With Nintendo Collab

Take a quick gander at the #tbt hashtag on Instagram and you won’t need further convincing that the Internet is fascinated with all things nostalgic. Riding this wave of sentimentality is Vans, which has powered up for the ultimate two-player partnership with Nintendo in this exclusive collection celebrating the good ol’ days of 8-bit video gaming.

The Vans x Nintendo Classic footwear range kicks off with variations of the Authentic silhouette inspired by the iconic games and artwork from Nintendo’s first console, the Nintendo Entertainment System. Travel to the Mushroom Kingdom with the Super Mario Bros in an 8-bit tie-dye pattern, which showcases Mario alongside his several “power-ups” and the villainous Goomba. Another colourway features the original damsel in distress, Princess Peach, awaiting rescue from her gallant, mustachioed plumber.

Vans’ quintessential lace-free silhouette, the Classic Slip-On, appears in the sneaker line-up with graphics and quotes from The Legend of Zelda. One of the featured quotes, “It’s dangerous to go alone!”,  has even spawned its own meme, and was ranked #27 on IGN’s top video game moments.

For those who want to pay a subtler homage to Nintendo, Vans is rolling out a side-striped trio of the Sk8-Hi, Old Skool and Sk8-Hi Slim for women, which highlight the pixelly goodness that the console had to offer in those glory days. Saving the best for last, kick up your heels and show off the iconic waffle sole printed with ‘Game Over!’ in black and white.

Available on June 15 at all Vans stores.
