Steeped in years of tradition, Martell has long represented sophistication and elegance in its collection of fine cognacs. In line with the eaux-de-vie’s exuberance for classy celebration, Martell has hired the hand of acclaimed fashion designer, Jason Wu, to tailor a ‘Black Tie’ limited edition design for the VSOP’s façade.
Having created a custom gown for Michelle Obama in 2009, the renowned designer’s visionary craftsmanship matches the Martell’s own ambitious origins. Sourcing inspiration from his own experiences in Cognac, France at the House of Martell, Wu says, “When I arrived at the Maison Martell, I was impressed by the architecture and the magnificent history which radiates from it. Every little detail, from the furniture to the cellar where the cognacs are maturing, is a source of inspiration.”
Adding a splash of fancy to the bottle, Wu’s reinvention sees the golden amber of the cognac draped in black, leather-like lux and touches of gold – a clandestine couture fitting for a refined evening, much like those on which the VSOP is enjoyed by its admirers. Not unlike the artiste himself, the bottle embodies the elegance, complexity and balance that Martell is renowned for.
To celebrate the momentous merger of the two visionaries, the ‘Black Tie’ limited edition VSOP will be debut at Zouk from Friday, January 30, followed by Altimate and f.Club from Friday, 6 February.
