Those who think they know Gotham’s dark knight inside out can go gaga for a literal manifestation of the timeless superhero. In the latest collaboration between renowned New York-based artist Jason Freeny, famous for his designer toy anatomies of pop culture icons, and Singapore/Shanghai-based creative studio and collectible art purveyor Mighty Jaxx, Bruce Wayne’s crime-fighting alter ego uncovers what’s beneath the suit (and the skin) for the limited edition 4D XXRAY Batman figurine.
Measuring in at over double the size of previous instalments in the XXRAY series at 9.5 inches tall, the figure’s “4D” nature goes beyond the 3D figurines many are familiar with, allowing collectors and kidults alike to open up the figurine and assemble or dissemble Batsy’s innards. Comprised of 37 individual parts, the DC-licensed collectible is constructed with attention and care by Hong Kong-based toy manufacturer and Freeny-collaborator, Fame Master, who worked with the artist previously to create skeletal gummy bears, balloon dogs, and rubber ducks for the acclaimed Funny Anatomy series.
Speaking on the process of bringing the anatomically imagined superhero to fruition, Freeny explains, “This project is the result of a 10-year quest from mere concept to actual fruition. It’s the combined efforts of Mighty Jaxx, one of the top designer toy producers; Fame Master, the global expert in anatomical models; and myself, a dude with some clay and the curiosity to see what’s inside my favourite childhood toys.”
