Can you find kapokland on the map? To celebrate their 10th anniversary, the ever so creative people at kapok aren’t just throwing a party; they’re declaring the independence of their very own country, kapokland.
Step foot into the whimsical and childlike kapokland at the National Design Centre this June 11 to join the festivities. Sip on a cup of coffee at ‘chez willy island’, or groove to the live music of local bands, Take Two and DEON, on ‘music island’. There’ll be gifts and games throughout the day where guests can win prizes, and let us tell you that we’re really gunning for an adorable framed copy of the kapokland map (there’s a raccoon in a hot air balloon in it; how could we resist?). And, as a way of marking this milestone, kapok is teaming up with a slew of lifestyle, fashion, homeware and jewellery brands to create special editions of their favourite items.
Homegrown brand, ginlee, has designed a versatile v-collar blouse with a subtle crosshatch pattern inspired by the kapok logo. Available in pink, mint and green, these colours were specially selected to fit kapok’s 10th anniversary colour palette. Local artisanal jewellery label, carrie k., has banged out a special collection of rings and bracelets, which were inspired by the hooks and latches of traditional Peranakan windows. Coming in silver, gold and rose gold, these trinkets reflect the idea that people should be open to the world outside.
The deck tote from Danish brand, mismo, is especially popular among bag-lovers, and it’s not difficult to guess why. With a classic shape and multiple inner pockets, the tote is the perfect travelling bag. For kapok’s anniversary, mismo is releasing 50 bags in an exclusive colour combination, complete with a leather embossed kapok logo.
Save the date and make your way down to kapokland if you want to snap up these limited edition items. Don’t forget to put on a striped outfit if you want free ice cream!
kapok’s 10th anniversary party happens on June 11 from 1- 8pm, at kapok NDC.
