Frankly, we Singaporeans don’t make use of the beach as often as we should. Aside from end-of-year bashes like ZoukOut and NYE’s Siloso Beach Party, we’ve got a whole stretch of sand that’d make any Londoner wanna tan that vitamin D-deficient skin. For those that lack the everyday spontaneity to roll out the beach towels with a boombox in hand, the return of VIBE Beach Sports & Music Festival in March will continue the festival spirit after you thought it was time to retire your flip-flops.
Utilising the vast spaces of the beach, VIBE sees Siloso Beach’s transformation into a 15-hour open playground poised for action. Unlike the calorie-heavy, dizzying antics of the beach’s other longstanding annual celebrations, the festival promotes ACTIVE-ities, hosting amateur beach soccer and beach volleyball competitions (which include some hefty cash prizes), as well as an attempt to break world records with a massive beach Zumba dance-by-day, led by French celebrity instructor, Alix Pfrunder. Providing adrenaline-fuelled fun and leisurely vibes for any and all who love the sand beneath their toes, beachgoers will have a chance to sweat it out during the day before things get even hotter by sundown.
Despite the sports-driven festivities that will occupy the daylight, VIBE certainly holds similarities to Siloso’s other famed beach blowouts – and it intends to reward those who work hard with a party hard line-up of internationally-renowned DJs to keep the sweat coming, including the electro-house Swede, AN21 (Steve Angello’s dashing younger brother), and Irish trance veteran, John O’Callaghan. Regional and local performers will also light up the evening with a wide range of pumping tunes, including the sounds of Ku De Ta resident Anand, alongside regional heavyweights such as Miles Slater and Potato Head’s DJ Yuki.
So if the thought of joyfully burning off your holiday love handles to heated sports activities or partying the night away on the sand doesn’t entice you, well then ain’t that a beach. Perhaps a giveaway will bring out some enthusiasm? We are giving away 5 pairs of all-day access passes to JUICE readers to attend the festival and join in on the action*. For a chance to win, all you have to do is 1) check out our Facebook photo; 2) LIKE and SHARE the post, and 3) TAG a buddy that you’ll be partying with on the day in JUICE’s original photo.
*Note: all-day access passes entitle participation in the Zumba session, but not beach soccer and volleyball competitions.
