Having made her self-started entrance into Singapore’s music scene with “Tea” in October last year, Chicago-based Singaporean-Filipino artist, Ysa Yaneza, follows up with a fitting visual accompaniment to her bubblegum pop debut. Bringing a pastel-coloured take on the classic ‘house party’ music video concept, the video is a dreamy ride through sexual exploration and the reckless abandon of youth.
Envisioned through the provocative lens of Bart Seng, viewers are led through the aftermath of what looks like a no holds barred pool/slumber party, reminiscent of Deftones’ “Change (In The House Of Flies)”. Featuring cameos by Melina K. of The Great White Lark (who also recently appeared in Tomgirl’s “Heartbeats” music video) and her fellow pälty sotatö bandmate Aaron Tan AKA ARNT (who remixed “Tea” earlier this year), as well as a number of outfits by offbeat local fashion label MASH-UP, the stlyised scenes provide vivid imagery to Yaneza’s saccharine vocals and self-produced electronic instrumentation that call upon comparisons with Grimes.
