Forget long hours cooped up in the studio; these people are living proof that music can be made anywhere. From inside a cab to under the sheets, these sessions bring music back to how it’s supposed to be – organic.
LA BLOGOTHEQUE TAKE AWAY SHOWS
Setting: A medley of picturesque scenes, from the Pont des Arts to the cliffs in Cornwall, where bands put on stripped-back performances.
Money Shot: The Lumineers playing so dramatically that they rallied a mob, Pied Piper style.
Bloop Scoop: When a taxi honked to get past Of Monsters and Men mid-performance in Roma.
Dream Casting: We’d love to see bands like MGMT – who are known for their futuristic spacey sounds – play in a rural countryside.
TINY DESK SESSIONS
Setting: Fighting the nine-to-five blues, musical acts play in tiny offices to a crowd they’re not used to – dreary and tired office folks
Money Shot: Macklemore jumping on the desk to rile everyone up.
Bloop Scoop: Edward Sharpe And The Magnetic Zeros barely squishing together and greeting everyone with a cheerful “Good Morning!” – at 2.10 in the afternoon.
Dream Casting: It’d be interesting to watch how a collective like The Flaming Lips scale the theatrics down to a dinky desk.
Setting: Urban alleys and skyline-gazing rooftops of major cities like New York and Melbourne.
Money Shot: The golden rays of the sun highlighting Passenger’s performance of “Golden Thread” so perfectly.
Bloop Scoop: The a capella ladies of The Nymphs having a Marilyn Monroe moment as a gust of wind breezed by.
Dream Casting: Al fresco raves aren’t unheard of, so why not shake things up with an interactive DJ who plays instruments? Slow Magic, where ya at?
A TROLLEY SHOW
Setting: In a traditional San Diego trolley rumbling down the streets of America’s Finest City.
Money Shot: Switchfoot’s last note ending precisely on the announcement of the next stop.
Bloop Scoop: The trolley cops shutting down Blondfire’s set.
Dream Casting: Considering how the setting only allows for simple acoustic instruments, we’d love to see how The Naked and Famous – masters of digital beats and gadget-buffed electronics – go au naturale on this one.
IN BED WITH
Setting: Under cover (literally) as we watch some of the best indie talents in bed – we’re talking music, of course.
Money Shot: Lucy Rose nuzzling within a cosy quilt fort as she whisks us off to snoozeland with a lullaby.
Bloop Scoop: The lads of Dispatch putting out a full performance in bed stark naked, save for a couple of pillows, guitars and a strategically-positioned bongo.
Dream Casting: Sky Ferriera. Apart from the fact the chick’s totally hawt, her aloof temperament will fit interestingly in an intimate setting.
BLACK CAB SESSIONS
Setting: Bands hitch rides in a classic London black cab, with instruments and all. Hosted by one accommodating driver.
Money Shot: Jens Lekman aptly singing “Black Cab” with a kalimba.
Bloop Scoop: Mumford & Sons pushing their cab out of the mud.
Dream Casting: Can an anarchic, hell-raising band like Slipknot behave within the vehicle’s quaint, uppity interior? We pray for the sake of the cabbie’s safety that they can!
