Since we last pegged her as a local lady to look out for in Singapore music last October, singer-songwriter Ffion has been hard at work to make sure she can back up the claim. Hot on the heels of the collaborative track “Over” with up-and-coming producer Jeff Hue in December, the songstress strikes while the iron is hot with a follow-up to loom over Valentine’s Day celebrations, titled “I Miss U”.
Produced by GROSSE – an artistic guise of local producer FAUXE – who produced her debut single “with u” and Sam Rui’s “Better”, Ffion’s latest single and music video dive into alt-R&B’s beloved themes of longing and heartbreak. Featuring lulled vocals that explore the push and pull between affection and conflict, the singer’s contemplations of the love she has lost make for a painful anthem for all those spending Valentine’s Day ruing saccharine, rose-coloured sentiments.
Speaking on the melancholic nature of “I Miss U”, Ffion explains, “Lyrically the song was written to almost contradict itself, to walk a fine line of indecisiveness.” With an EP in the works due for release in July, the music teased so far indicates that the singer’s debut will run the gamut of romance.
