First they switched off the lights, then they turned on the heat – now G-SHOCK have released the loudest collection thus far for its big 35th Anniversary, happening in April this year. This time, watch giants CASIO have enlisted the street-cred of NIGO, founder of streetwear label Bathing Ape, and paired him with the founding father of G-SHOCK, Kikuo Ibe.
Those of us who were teens, or were living our adult lives in the ’80s and ’90s will truly appreciate the fluorescent furore in the newest release as it pays homage to the fashion trends of that era – we all remember that neon yellow T-shirt that’s locked away in the crevices of your wardrobe!
As much as these new G-SHOCKs may look like the BABY-G, they aren’t. Just like all previous releases, these two are not only shock-resistant – they are made using a special resin colouring and manufacturing process which prevents colour degradation.
Only 35 pieces of each model will be available and just to add more exclusivity, CASIO will be hosting an online raffle from 1 February to 5 March (U.S. time) for fans to ballot for a ticket to make a purchase.
To top things off, Kikuo Ibe will personally deliver the watch to one lucky buyer, wherever in the world they may be – talk about the baller life!
These watches will retail at US$135. The raffle will be live on 1 February (U.S. time) on the official website.
