Disrupting the quiet Chinese New Year weekend with blaring guitars, thumping drums and avant-garde a capellas, Tokyo-Kyoto punks NI-HAO! are set to shake the foundations of The Projector’s Intermission Bar on Saturday, February 17.
Likened to fellow garage rockers Boredoms, OOIOO and Otoboke Beaver, the self-dubbed “cheer punk” female four-piece’s pursuit of experimentation sees them unrestricted by genre, exploring everything from gritty guitar rock and straight-up hardcore-punk to hip-hop and pop tunes. Their 2016 LP, NO RESPECT, released on Aussie DIY label and distro tenzenmen records, showcases this diversity and is anything but a casual listen.
Performing in Singapore for the first time, the band will be joined by local noise duo S*I*N x Schizophrenic Wonderland, post-hardcore outfit Afsa, powerviolence group Reyerta, and grind trio SHAKTII, with a closing party by new ska savants Geylang Ska-Jazz Band. The show is presented in conjunction with local subculture collective grandfist and DIY label Prohibited Projects.
NI-HAO! performs at The Projector’s Intermission Bar on February 17, 2018. Doors open at 6.30pm; entry is SGD 15 before 7pm and SGD 20 after 7pm. For more info, visit the official Facebook event page.
