Fans of jazz, soul and R&B, hold onto your hats. Continuing its trend of bringing in powerful female voices to headline its annual festival, SING JAZZ returns this year with none other than Ms. Lauryn Hill to lead the lineup.
Having wowed audiences the past few years with some of soul and R&B’s leading ladies, including Esperanza Spalding and Joss Stone, this year’s impressive list of acts sees a legend of the genres making her way to Singapore for the very first time, and an artist who unquestionably inspired a generation of artists, including the two aforementioned singer-songwriters. Finding fame with iconic ’90s hip-hop trio The Fugees (the minds behind the reinvented “Killing Me Softly”), Hill remained an important voice in urban music throughout her career, despite only releasing one studio album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.
Held over three nights from April 6 to 8 at Marina Bay Sands, the festival brings together masters of various styles and disciplines, with artists including Grammy award-winning soul singer Lalah Hathaway (daughter of the legendary Donny Hathaway), jazz-pop maestro Jamie Cullum (who still holds the title for best cover of Radiohead’s “High & Dry”) and chill trap aficionado Parov Stelar, among many more.
SING JAZZ 2018 takes place from April 6 to 8 at Marina Bay Sands. Tickets on sale from February 1, 12pm. For ticketing and more information, visit sing-jazz.com.
