Niall Horan is bringing his Flicker World Tour 2018 to Singapore after scooping up Best New Artist at the American Music Awards in Los Angeles last November. And if that is not enough, Ming Bridges is set to go full-on fangirl when she opens for the One Direction star next month. We caught up with the Irish singer-songwriter to find out more about his global shows and more!
How does it feel to be back on the road, touring with your own band this time around? Do you ever miss being in a group?
After five years touring and being on stage with One Direction, I had to adapt to the new set-up. It was obviously a big change to start with. Being on the road and playing shows all over the world for my fans is the best part of my job. This year has been incredible so far. Kicking off the Flicker World Tour in front of my home crown in Ireland was extra special and the shows in the U.K. and Europe have been unreal. I’m looking forward to the shows in Southeast Asia now. The fans there have a very special place in my heart.
“Me and my band love performing more than anything so we are very excited to be taking the tour to Singapore very soon.”
Which do you think will be your favourite track to perform?
I really enjoy performing “Flicker”. It’s a very special song for me and I absolutely love performing it live. I always try and speak to the audience before I play it to ask them to really be silent during it, put away the phones and enjoy the moment with me.
Will you be performing any One Direction songs during your concert?
Yes absolutely. I love performing my re-interpretations of “Drag Me Down” and “Fools Gold”.
You penned all the songs in the album, Flicker. Where did you get your inspiration from?
The music that I grew up listening to and my own experiences. I grew up listening to bands like Fleetwood Mac and The Eagles and I love to think that you can hear that singer-songwriter style in my music.
Let’s talk about the Flicker World Tour, what can fans in Singapore expect?
They can expect a great show. Me and my band love performing more than anything so we are very excited to be taking the tour to Singapore very soon.
You recorded a live set of Flicker with the 45-piece RTÉ Concert Orchestra. Any plans of bringing this show on the road or to release it in an album?
Recording my songs supported by a 45-piece orchestra was an absolute dream. The level of musicianship in the room was absolutely extraordinary. I don’t think touring with a 45-piece orchestra is feasible though!
We’ve heard about your upcoming collaboration with Julia Michaels. Who else will you be collaborating in the future?
Julia supported me on my European Tour, but there is no collaboration in the pipeline at this stage. She is fantastic and obviously one of the best writers in the world so we will write together soon and one day who knows.
You have a huge fan base in Asia, any words you want to say to them?
Thank you for your constant unconditional support. Can’t wait to see you all soon!
