Singapore is often referred to as the “Garden City”, because in the midst of the hustle and bustle of its urbanised confines, the beauties of nature still abound. To celebrate this duality, homegrown perfumery Singapore Memories has produced specific scents for certain aspects of Singapore’s rich and colouristic history. These Made-in-Singapore scents and fragrances will appeal to tourists who wants to bring back a piece of our sunny island and to locals who wish to wear their love for Singapore on their sleeves.
Singapore is always known as a melting pot of races and cultures. One such group which boasts an incredibly rich culture are the Peranakans. Christened after them, this perfume exudes the luxurious musk of oud, while having hidden notes of tonka bean, praline and green tobacco leaves, tying the entire unisex fragrance together into a warm and woody hinge.
1981 – the year when Changi Airport became fully operational; the Singapore River was cleaned; the port was the second busiest in worldwide, and when “The Kindness Movement” was launched. Named after one of the most significant years in Singapore’s history and packing the sweet-smelling, powdery aroma of Vanda Orchids, this fragrance is for the intellectual and inquisitive ladies.
Another symbolic year of Singapore was when we gained independence as a tiny country, without the guidance of a bigger, more experienced neighbouring government. From there, we took off to become one of the most developed first world countries in the global arena. Taking inspiration from the vanilla and chocolate-smelling Aranda orchids, bergamot, kafir lime, and other citruses, it gathers in layers of a bold and masculine edge. Further condensing the manly whiff into the bottle are traces of musk, amber and wood.
One Degree North
Singapore is located just a mere one° North of the Equator. Thanks to its fortunate geographical location, our sunny island does not suffer the merciless summer heat nor the bitter winter cold. It’s always warm and bright here, no matter the time of the year. It is also thanks to this tropical climate that we are able to house a never-ending array of different flora and fauna species. This men’s perfume is a celebration of that variety and resilience.
What’s your idea of a perfect stress-reliever? A perfect getaway to the beach or simple walk down a garden filled with flowers? Marrying the two ideal mood-lifters, this perfume was inspired by the happiness that travellers search for and bring back from Singapore. A perfect balance between nature, peace and healing, this the perfect fragrance for those who want to recuperate from the pressure of today’s stress.
The fragrances are available at Cruise Center, Sentosa, other tourist shops and online, from $28 (18ml) to $168 (100ml).
