Singaporeans really love their humour which is why we are dedicating an entire month of April to comedy and comedians – we’re not kidding. With the recently concluded Singapore Improv Festival, our friends at Cuponation Singapore wanted to find out who is most popular Southeast Asian comedian in Singapore. Is it Harith Iskander, Fakkah Fuzz or someone else?
Believe it or not, it is a tie between Harith and Fakkah, who took the lead in Cuponation’s popularity contest followed closely by fellow Singaporeans Rishi Budhrani, Sharul Channa and Indonesia’s Raditya Dika respectively.
However, with the constant rise in star power of these comedians, the more you’d eventually have to pay to catch them live. As laughter is the probably the best form of therapy, we decided to help you with a list of ‘hacks’ to enjoy your favourite stand up comedians without going broke.
#1 Go for the cheapest
Compare the minimum entrance fees for a list of comedy festivals around Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia to find which is the cheapest to check out and tickle your funny bone, especially since most popular comedians perform at various comedy festivals .
#2 Netflix and cry (of laughter)
If you’re not one who attends a comedy show every other week, consider vegging out with friends and catching Harith Iskander’s I Told You So and Fakkah Fuzz’s Almost Banned on Netflix. There are heaps of other comedians for you to discover too!
#3 All Hail YouTubers
What is cheaper than YouTube? To save more on comedy shows, prepare to be amazed by the number of homegrown comedic talents available for free. They aren’t your typical stand-up comedians, but YouTubers like Wah Banana! offers a humorous take on local happenings from a millennial perspective.
