Probably the most anticipated Marvel movie of the year, Avengers: Infinity War could very well be the last showcase of heroes banding together to battle the mighty Thanos. While casual movie-goers and fair-weather fans of the series may not particularly enjoy the outcome, Marvel geeks will be thrilled by epic battles, heart-warming reunions, new weaponry, intense deaths, unthinkable surprises and revelations.
Here we share with you the top 8 reasons why you should buy a ticket to catch Avengers: Infinity War in cinemas from 25 April 2018 (Singapore).
Be warned: there will be SPOILERS!
#1 Infinity Stones
We’ve been dealt with the impact of the revered Infinity Stones in Marvel films for years, but finally, in this latest release, we will see the true power of these elemental relics. It’s been written (in comics) that Thanos will obtain all six stones and this will happen in a way that will break a lot of hearts. Vision and Dr. Strange have been able to harness the power of the Mind Stone and Time Stone respectively, but wait till you see how Thanos does it with all of them!
#2 Iron Spider
Spiderman will be dragged into the space during a battle with Thanos’ goons and although Peter Parker’s ordinary suit made its way into his hands through Stark Industries, it does not have the ability to shield the Arachnid in a vacuum. Here we’ll see Ironman call on Jarvis to send the Iron Spider suit to Spiderman just before as he passes out in high altitude. The upgrade not only looks awesome, but it helps with Spidey’s acrobatic fighting style. Peter Parker will be abruptly inducted as an official Avenger once he show’s off his new suit.
#3 The LOLS
Thor: Ragnarok set the tone for Marvel movies to be humourous and while most of us may have forgotten this, Avengers: Infinity War continued to bring us the chuckles with combinations that we’ve only dreamt of seeing. Thor’s interaction with the Guardians of the Galaxy – namely Starlord and Rocket – will make you laugh. Other funny ones include chatter between Bruce Banner & Hulk, Tony Stark & Dr. Strange, and Thor & Captain America. But Drax the Destroyer takes the cake!
#4 Thor’s new weapons
The God of Thunder suffered in Ragnarok, losing both his eye and hammer. In this film, Thor will find an eye from an unlikely source and a new Asgardian weapon that’s more powerful than his old hammer. It’s so strong that it almost killed Thanos. Gamer geeks will be able to draw similarities from Kratos’ Levithian axe in the latest God Of War video game release.
# 5 Captain America’s new shield
You’ll see this coming when Steve Rogers and his crew make their way to Wakanda help Vision remove the Mind Stone that’s lodged in his forehead. They were planning to remove the stone and destroy it while preserving Vision’s life and while preparing for an attack from Thanos’ army, T’Challa utters the now famous line: “Get that man shield!”. But seeing how the movie ended, the Black Panther would’ve been better off getting that man a beer instead.
#6 Red Skull
Here’s one secret that had us gaping in our seats! Captain America’s arch rival makes an appearance in Avengers: Infinity War and interacts with Thanos before the Mad Titan retrieves the Soul Stone. Although this gave us ‘nerdbumps’, it would have better to see Steve Rogers have a crack at him.
Although Thanos is billed as the villain in this film, his intention for hunting the Infinity Stones is actually quite noble. We will learn that Thanos wants to make sure that people in the universe will have enough resources to use. He foresaw that supplies will run out and to ensure people can survive, he was willing (or demanded) that half of the entire population be halved. His idea was shunned and when he successfully collected all six Infinity Stones – in gaming terms – THANOS WINS!
#8 Captain Marvel
As you watch your favourite heroes crumble in the hands of Thanos at the end of the film, the end-credits will continue to deal more sadness to Marvel fans. You’ll see Shield agents Maria Hill and Nick Fury disintegrate. But just before the iconic eye-patched leader dies, he’ll be calling for help using a super-old-school pager, which is pretty low-tech for someone of his calibre. And don’t get us started on Tony Stark’s backward flip mobile phone you’ll see earlier in the movie. Just before the cinema lights come on, you’ll see Captain Marvel’s unmistakable 8-bit insignia appear on the pager. Are you ready for something marvellous?
