Sports and style collide with Superga Sport’s latest retrospective release, the Superga Sport Lendl.
Most folks will be familiar with the Italian shoemaker’s trademark vulcanised rubber soles and have probably strutted their stuff in notable collections like the evergreen 2750, voguish Moccasin, stentorian Flatform and the quintessential Panatta, among others.
Now, Superga have wound up the hands of time, back to how it all began in the early 1900s when they first manufactured tennis shoes.
Honouring the release of the timeless Lendl collection, Superga have rightfully appointed tennis legend of the 80s, Ivan Lendl – winner of eight Grand Slam titles and a four-time ITF world champion – to smash yet another ace with the brand.
Lendl, now 57 years of age, wore these iconic kicks with the unmistakable ‘swallow’s tail’ insignia throughout his illustrious career and managed to become the longest-reigning ranked-one player during his time; 270 weeks.
Apart from the trademark ‘swallow’s tail’ logo, the new addition to the Superga Sport range will feature all the original characteristics that Superga fans know and love – an eco-leather upper, the unmistakable printed rubber sole and the Superga Sport logo on the tongue.
Perhaps the best and most significant feature in the Lendl shoe, is International Tennis Hall of Famer’s signature on the back in gold foil – the perfect mark for a true legend.
“I always have had good memories of the years in which I wore Superga and it is a huge honour for me that they are bringing back the shoe and that it will carry my signature,” Lendl said.
“I am very excited about the new Superga Lendl collection. The designs and styles are fantastic. I am really looking forward to working with Superga on this project.”
Superga Sport Lendl will be available in Superga stores worldwide from 29 June 2017. Retailing at $139.90, it will be available in 3 colourways – White, White/Blue and White/Red Navy.
