Travel back to the BC era, where express courier was unheard of and merchants had to take on the meandering Silk Road on camelback to access its sprawling treasure trove of opulent jewels and fragrant spices. While we can only look to the smattering of records for an inkling of its well-trodden, mystic-shrouded paths, a whiff of Shanghai Tang’s The Silk Road Fragrance Collection is all it takes to call to mind the fabled, exotic landscape of the years bygone.
Paying homage to the grandeur of Chinese culture, eight oriental scents – five for women and three for men – make up The Silk Road Fragrance Collection. Comprising entirely of au naturel components, the multi-faceted scents have been specially concocted by Master Parfumier, Carlos Benaim, famed for creating signature scents for Armani and Prada.
For the women, exude elegance with just a spritz, as wafts of Lily, Jasmine, Orchid, and Rose accents emanate in their full blooming beauty. Bearing names like Oriental Pearl, Rose Silk, and Gold Lily, the multi-layered fragrances are also infused with notes of Musk and Sandalwood, reminiscent of the captivating sensuality of the Silk Road.
The men’s eau de colognes, on the other hand, present jaunty medleys of bold and masculine scents, bearing comforting and earthy undertones. The ambrosial aroma of Tea, freshness of Vetiver Heart, and soothing Cedarwood Oil make up the key notes of the Mandarin Tea, Jade Dragon, and L’orient respectively, blended with an array of spices and herbs traditionally traded and transported along the Silk Road.
With the Chinese symbol of longevity emblazoned across, the exquisitely crafted bottles – of both the men’s and women’s range – are collectables in their own right. True to a label so steeped in oriental influences, Shanghai Tang’s sublime scents are a hallmark of the label’s devotion to bringing tradition and innovation together in harmony.
The Silk Road Fragrance Collection is available at Shanghai Tang stores islandwide, including #03-06/07 Takashimaya. For more information, visit shanghaitang.com.
