Lil Uzi Vert has shared the official music video to his Internet-resounding, chart-scaling emo-hop single “XO Tour Llif3” and it’s directed by Virgil Abloh and features a cameo by The Weekend. Despite the stratospheric hype implied by its individual parts – and their sum, of course – the visuals are faithful to the song, which chronicles Uzi’s breakup with his longtime girlfriend Brittany Byrd, battles with drug addiction and unshakable suicidal thoughts. It’s just that with the Off-White honcho painting the picture, its overarching themes of death and disaffection are distilled into a riveting and distinctly stylised experience.
Abloh himself appears in the clip’s opening scenes. As per his heavily (self-)referential style, he is filmed while he is filming with a camcorder. This then leads to a series of seemingly disconnected vignettes that feature Uzi rapping as he’s walking on a street under a sky that gradually becomes streaked with apocalyptic bolts of lightning, zombies, zombified corpses, Uzi in various stages of death, Uzi bleeding profusely, The Weeknd just vibing to the camera, and OVO-signee NAV doing the same, while throughout it all, Arabic subtitles denote what”s going on.
The upshot of all this is that it it looks like the most hype horror movie ever made.
Here are some choice visuals.
Now, take in the clip below.
